BME Elders Forum:  Established in March 2002 with support form Age Concern England, the BME Elders Forum is currently made up of organisations mainly from London and the Midlands.  The Foroum is striving to become a national forum by developing membership in all regions, to represent the interests of as wide a range of Black and Minority Ethnic Elders as possible.

Membership is open to BME voluntary and community organisations (local, regional or national) with a stated interest in and experience of working with BME Elders.  Interested professionals are also invited to become members of the Forum.

The Forum has direct representation on Age Concern England's Board of Trustees.

The Forum aims to achieve change and improvements in the lives of BME Elders in England by influencing policy and services; to ensure the voices of older people from BME community are heard; to encourage and acknowledge the contribution othat BME Elders make to society; to promote the principles of racial equality, equity and respect for diversity through its work with and on behalf of BME Elders; and to work together with other organisations to influence policies that directly affect BME Elders.

Information and Advice Services for BME elders:
The following report was commissioned by Age Concern England as part of the 'Community Support UK' project.  The project, which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund, is working with Age Concerns and community and voluntary sector organisations in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, to improve the quality of information and advice services for older people.
 
This report may be a useful background and resource document to inform some of your work locally with BME older people, particularly those of you who are involved in delivering Information & Advice services.
